Yoel Romero

Yoel Romero is not a very well-liked fighter by some in the middleweight division. Jacare Souza doesn’t like him very much because he feels that he cheated and didn’t deserve the split-decision win he has over him at UFC 194, and Tim Kennedy seemed somewhat unsettled by how that whole stool-gate thing went down at UFC 178.

Romero was a wrestler for Cuba in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, winning a silver medal in Sydney (2000). Romero defected from Cuba to Germany in 2007 and began training MMA, making his debut in 2009.

Romero has been unstoppable in MMA, albeit he needed a little extra recovery time against Kennedy. His only MMA loss was in Strikeforce to Rafael Cavalcante, and another via tainted supplement to USADA.

He would be in line for a title shot, but a failed drug test sent him spiralling down the rankings of what is a very clogged and chaotic UFC middleweight division.
