Khamzat Chimaev might be the biggest hype train right now with his breakthrough performance. He has fought 3 times this year in a span of 3 months. His first two fights are were done in 10 days which is a new record for the modern UFC era.
Dana White has said that he sees potential stardom for Chimaev. He was unranked prior to the scheduled fight against Leon Edwards. Leon Edwards is the current #3 ranked welterweight in the world.
It is kinda funny that Chimaev who just debuted in the UFC this year has more followers that most of the top 5 contenders. Chimaev currently has 1.1M followers on his Instagram account while Edwards only has 89k.
Chimaev may be the more popular fighter by a mile but what matters at the end of the day is “Who will win coming to the fight?”. Being popular has its perks but both focus on being the best fighter in the world.
Chimaev looks invincible in his last 3 UFC performance, he had the grappling and striking top notched. The question still remains if Chimaev is a legit top contender, he still has not fought someone on the level of Leon Edwards.
Leon Edwards is on 8 fight win streak on one of the hardest divisions, people need to respect his name. Chimaev has not fought this type of competition yet but the hype train is there.
Chimaev has huge potential to be the most complete fighter. He has moved up and down weight division due to him wanting to fight often. He has fought in middleweight and welterweight. In his last performance, he one punched KO’D a bigger middleweight, Gerald Meerschaert. This means that he has knockout power given his size.
The current betting odds is Chimaev is the favorite, so it is wise to bet on Edwards win/lose. Even if Edwards loses, the bet is still smart since he is the proven fighter resume wise plus the underdog.
It is also worth noting that the card is not a PPV event, so it is free to watch. The full fight card is stacked with big names so it is nice that the UFC is giving us a chance to watch the rising star Khamzat Chimaev if he is the real deal.
Leon Edwards meanwhile has a chance to stop the hype train and put respect on his name. One of the most underappreciated fighter in UFC right now given who he has beaten and win streak.
Chimaev has even called out current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya.
