It’s tough to really think of Pacquiao doing anything in MMA. He has even said himself that if he were to face Conor McGregor, it would be in boxing. Because he knows nothing about MMA. But what if he were given a year to learn the basics of wrestling and grappling? Two years?
One thing’s for sure. He would certainly do better than CM Punk.
Pacquiao has one thing really going for him, and that’s his incredible speed. Add to that his tremendous power, and you have a potent offensive weapon. But how would he do against a guy like Demetrious Johnson?
Mighty Mouse is the current pound-for-pound best fighter in MMA right now and for good reason. He is extremely well-rounded and terribly difficult to hit. He has all the bases covered and is better than his opponent in every given aspect nine times out of ten.
But Pacquiao, given enough time to get his grappling up to a respectable level, would do damage in MMA. He grew up on the hard streets of Manila in dirt-poor poverty. That just makes Pacquiao inherently tough. His natural ability to fight would also help a great deal in the striking aspect.
It would be a hell of an entertaining fight if Pacquiao and Johnson locked horns in the Octagon. Don’t you think?
