Tony Ferguson gets the verbal warfare off to a start with a nasty message to Conor McGregor. Will ‘The Notorious’ respond?

Taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada this past Saturday was UFC 216. Headlining the card were Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee in a bout for the interim lightweight title. With every hunting a fight with Conor McGregor, the winner of this junior title fight would hold the chips.

Showing why he was unbeaten in nine fights previously, ‘El Cucuy’ turned it up against Lee. Although he fought valiantly, ‘Motown Phenom’ was finished by triangle choke in round three.

With the win, Ferguson moves to 10 straight wins in the deep lightweight division. Obviously, the fight that makes sense now is with McGregor, the champion. Similarly to when ‘The Notorious’ held the interim featherweight belt, there is no other fight possible than with the full champ.

Taking the opportunity after UFC 216, Ferguson blasted McGregor.

Tony Ferguson got the trash talk off to a big start this weekend…

Ferguson Details How He’ll Smash McGregor

Speaking during the UFC 216 post-fight press conference, Ferguson wasn’t shy about his predictions. Claiming he’d batter the Irishman with his jab, the new interim champion also said he would finish the fight on the ground:

“I’ll ankle pick him, no problem,” Ferguson told reporters at the UFC 216 post-fight news conference. “I’ll sit him on his ass, and everybody’s the same size on the ground. Conor McGregor poses no threat to me, especially when I hit him with my jab.

He’s going to be running away like Katsunori Kikuno did, and I’ll chase after his ass like a cornerback, and I’ll slam him to the ground and finish him with a D’Arce choke or any other choke of my pleasing.”

“The boy’s scared,” Ferguson said. “He’s never mentioned my name one time. Not one time during this whole entire talk. I’ve been here, I have 10 consecutive victories, I’m interim lightweight champ. It doesn’t matter who they put in front of me. It could be Khabib; it could be Conor. I’m going to go back to the drawing board, and I’m going to talk to my agents and talk to my team. But the fight is with Conor. It is with Conor. You can’t run anymore, man. You’re in check. And I’m great at chess.”

During the post-fight speech with Joe Rogan, a hyped up Ferguson was way more explicit with his message to ‘McNuggets.’

‘Where you at McNuggets you f**king piece of s**t!?’ roared Ferguson in his post-fight interview. ‘I’m gonna kick your ass! You better come and defend that belt, you better not vacate motherf**ker!’

Dana White’s comments also confirm there’s no other options in play for McGregor/Ferguson:

“Nobody is talking about Diaz,” White said. “Diaz has never been talked about, that’s internet bullsh*t. Tony is the interim champion, Conor is the champion, it’s the fight that makes sense. It’s the fight that has to happen, it doesn’t make sense, it’s the fight that has to happen.”
