2. Jon Jones
Stipe Miocic, for all the accolades he has earned recently, is not that marketable of a champion. He won’t break PPV records, he won’t sell a lot of Reebok fighter kits (except in Cleveland), and he won’t be the next Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey or Brock Lesnar. If he really wants to cash-in and earn a huge pay cheque for his next fight he should take on Jon Jones.
Jon Jones can fight at heavyweight, and while he has sounded less enthusiastic about the idea recently, Jones taking a super-fight sure would take attention off of his failed drug test at UFC 200.
The Jones vs. Miocic fight would allow Cormier and Rumble Johnson to fight for the light heavyweight championship next and Jones could face the winner no matter what happens with Stipe. Of course this all depends on what happens at Jon Jones’ USADA hearing. If the rumours are true however, Jones’ punishment will be minimal.
Unfortunately it is unlikely that Jon Jones’ team would advise him to take this fight, but it sure would be awesome.
