#2 Knock Out Nate Diaz
McGregor has had two insanely close fights against Nate Diaz. In the first bout, Diaz overcome just being completely torn apart by McGregor to win by submission. The whole world saw it, and everyone knew the outcome. There’s not a fan on earth who hasn’t seen that fight, or at the very least highlights.
In the rematch, McGregor was finally able to defeat Diaz but needed a Majority Decision (MD) to do so. Diaz remained very competitive through five rounds and was constantly a threat. In the end, despite McGregor’s victory, the fight was close enough for one judge to score it a draw.
To this day, Nate Diaz remains McGregor’s hardest fight to date. And it has more to do with Diaz’ toughness as a fighter rather than McGregor’s lack of finishing skills. He is the lone asterisk on McGregor’s career at this point.
In order for McGregor to become even remotely considered for the greatest of all-time status, he will have to pursue that third bout against Diaz, and this time he will have to finish him.
Diaz is a fighter who is extremely difficult to finish. McGregor, a certified finisher, has first hand experience in this. If he can finish Diaz, then it would erase that asterisk from his otherwise pristine credentials.
