Dwayne Johnson is certainly celebrating after his friend, Themba Gorimbo, won through a remarkable Round 1 TKO over Pete Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night 235 this weekend.
“The Answer” made a quick win in the event without even using the entire first round of his match against Rodriguez. After the opening of the bout, Gorimbo immediately started his work by sending the opponent a huge right hand, which dropped “Dead Game.” Seeing his opportunity, Gorimbo quickly sent more punches to seal his victory, which soon led to a TKO.
Prior to the fight, “The Rock” sent the fighter his support. In the post, Johnson recalled how they started their friendship, with the actor admitting to being impressed with Gorimbo’s story by only having $7 in his bank account while pursuing his MMA dreams. After this, Johnson bought the fighter a house in 2023.
“Themba’s amazing story caught my eye when MMA fans sent me an ESPN tweet where Themba had just $7 bucks in his bank account before his last fight,” wrote Johnson. “I flew to meet him and instantly realized he’s a special and humble human being. I’m honored to play a very very small role in his inspiring journey.”
Gorimbo started his UFC record with a loss to AJ Fletcher in February last year. Nonetheless, the Zimbabwe fighter bounced back and won via unanimous decision over Takashi Sato last May. Now, with his latest win, the fighter has extended his winning streak to two fights.
