Powers dropped his opponent with a combination less than 10 seconds into the bout. Kohlman worked back to his feet and secured a takedown, ending up on top. His dominant position lasted only a few seconds, as Powers swept him right into mount before finishing with strikes. Although Connal was able to win his MMA debut, his father and those around him have taken a lot of flack for allowing a minor to step in and fight a fully grown adult. There have been others before him, such as UFC Welterweight Rory MacDonald, who fought at an early age and didn’t face any danger. A commission that regulates these types of events, which continue to increase in popularity, should at least be in existence in the state of Montana to ensure the safety of all parties involved.
Powers has proven that he is more than ready to fight adults in competition, but in the case that an unprepared minor was allowed to step in and take a beating from an adult could be very controversial. Powers will look to fight once again, he plans on continuing his MMA career and taking his second amateur fight on May 20 in Billings, Montana.
