Former UFC light heavyweight champion and consensus pound-for-pound best mixed martial artist in the world, Jon “Bones” Jones, has often found himself in headlines for all the wrong reasons, hitting newswires with his crazy antics and law-breaking shenanigans. Despite his setbacks, Jones is set to soon find his way back to the Octagon to take on reigning champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 214.

Preparations for that fight may be a little tougher now, mentally though. Jones’ mother Camille passed away just recently, the UFC fighter’s brother and NFL star Arthur Jones announced on Instagram on Tuesday.

Mother of former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones passes away

“Mom, I love you so much! It’s hard to accept the fact that my mother is not with me anymore she went to be with my sister in heaven,” Arthur wrote in a post on his Instagram account. “No more pain and suffering. Thank you for making me the man I am today! This Friday and Saturday will be the toughest weekend of my life. Please keep my family in your prayers.”

Jones is known to have a good relationship with his mother. Which is one of the good things in his life. His mother was blind and after his fights, she would go up to him and touch his face to make sure he was okay.

She is survived by her son Jon, and two other sons Arthur and Chandler, both NFL stars.

With UFC 214 just a little over a month away, it is hard to tell how this will affect Jones’ preparations for the biggest fight of his life.

The defending UFC light heavyweight champ and Jones’ opponent, Daniel Cormier, took to Twitter to offer his reaction.

Opponent Daniel Cormier offers his condolences

“In our community, the mother is the backbone. @JonnyBones, Arthur, Chandler, and Mr. Jones I am sorry for your loss. RIP Mrs Camille. Prayers,” Cormier said in a Tweet.

Cormier and Jones have a long-standing rivalry as two of the best light heavyweights in the history of mixed martial arts. They fought once before, back in January of 2015 when Jones ran away with a hard-earned unanimous decision. A string of out-of-the-cage setbacks and suspensions hit Jones shortly after, as the former champ was forced to spend an extended time away from competition.

During that period, Cormier went on to take his mantle of being the best light heavyweight in the world. Successfully defending the title against the likes of Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Johnson and Anderson Silva. Jones and Cormier have also gotten into heated bouts of trash-talking and extracurricular skirmishes.

How will this affect Jones’ preparations for UFC 214?

It appears however, that the rivalry will be put on hold for the time being as Jones mourns the loss of his mother.

It was a sincere offer of condolences from Cormier. Of course, it is tough to lose a loved one. And human relationships and family undoubtedly transcend the limits of the Octagon. To Jon Jones, the world offers its sincerest condolences during these difficult times.
