Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather are born entertainers, so don't be surprised if more people watch the press conference than pay for the fight itself...

WOW…against all odds, Mayweather vs. McGregor is FINALLY official…

After 18 months of speculation, talk, rumours and speculation, Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor is official. At the end of May we learned that Conor McGregor had signed the contract, but the fight was far from done.

Apparently UFC president Dana White was in on the negotiations, then reported to be out of them too. Amidst conflicting reports, news that Mayweather promotions had booked a venue for August 26 emerged.

believe it or not, the fight everybody thought would never happening is here, it’s real and it’s going down in August…

Mayweather Confirms The Fight

More reports leaked that Mayweather promotions had retracted the date, but they too proved to be premature. The NSAC confirmed with MMAFighting that the date had been reinstated on Tuesday night.

Then there’s this, from Floyd Mayweather himself:

Straight from the horses mouth, as they say, is the biggest fight announcement of the year.

Who will you be putting your money on?

Miocic vs. Joshua on August 26 Too?

Heavyweight UFC boss Stipe Miocic recently made the case for a fight with his boxing counterpart on the same card:

“He’s an amazing fighter. I think it would be great, something different. I’d love to show what I’ve got. I think he’s an amazing fighter, nothing to take away from him honestly but I think it would be awesome.”

“Conor’s going to do it. It’s great cross promotion, I’d love to be a part of that.”

I did Golden Gloves and all that good stuff,”

“I just love the fight, I think it would be a great fight, I think people would love to see it.”

“I’m going to go out there and give it all I got. Listen, I’ve got the best coaches in the world and I’d definitely be ready for that fight.”

Odds makers are already putting Mayweather as a ridiculously huge favourite over McGregor…

Mayweather vs. McGregor is Official, So What’s Next?

Arguably the biggest fight possible right now is likely to rub a few boxing heads the wrong way. Here’s what Oscar De La Hoya said recently:

“My response is I have to take the high road. He says my fight sucks, I say the same thing, his fight sucks. McGregor is not a boxer, he doesn’t have a single round of experience inside the boxing ring. He’s the best MMA fighter, the best UFC fighter. I have all the respect in the world for him, for the UFC, for what he’s done.

But he is not a boxer, and he’s going up against the best boxer in the world here, in our generation? Against Mayweather, and he’s 0-0, and he thinks he’s gonna beat him? It’s impossible, I couldn’t beat him! It’s going to be a 12-round boxing fest. That’s all it’s gonna be, Mayweather boxes, he’s a boxer.”

You cannot go in there with zero experience and box Mayweather, it’s not possible. When Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao took place, it set the sport back. It was a dud. It’s just like Canelo and Chavez, Chavez didn’t show up for a fight, people were disappointed. I made GGG vs. Canelo in order to bring back those fans, and give fight fans a real fight.

What happens in the sport of boxing, that I’m an expert in, it’s going to be entertaining because in the first few rounds. People are going to want to see Mayweather get knocked out, but for the next nine rounds it’s going to be boring, Mayweather is going to figure him out and box him. We know what’s going to happen. It’s going to be an easy fight for him.”
