UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier Reveals the Reason Why Jon Jones Has Taken Their Online Feud Past The Limit…

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones actively despise each other. It’s definitely the most intense rivalry in mixed martial arts. Sorry, Conor and Khabib, you guys are just bickering kids in comparison. Over the last couple of weeks, DC and Bones have been sniping at each other, reminding the world that this isn’t over.

Jones is the only man to inflict defeat upon former Strikeforce heavyweight champion and Olympian, Cormier. He is the former UFC light-heavyweight champion, although has been stripped three times for doping violations and events that occurred outside the cage.

Their online feud has escalated to new ugly levels after the pair brought each other’s families into focus. Cormier was outraged and sickened after Jones subtly targeted his father. A man who was murdered when the Lousiana native was just a boy. Not cool.

Dark History

Cormier’s tragic history and his devotion to his family make him one of the most inspiring figures in MMA today. He’s been overshadowed by the legacy of the Jones fights, but at the end of the day, he’s a top professional. DC explained:

“It’s kind of what he does. Before our very first fight there were some direct messages sent, and he said he was my daddy or some s**t like that. I guess fans, somebody told him something in reference to my father being murdered, so he had  Dana call me on three-way to apologize for saying anything like ‘I’m your daddy.’

But, every time we argue, he goes back to ‘I’m your daddy’ or something like that. He didn’t mean to apologize. So there’s deeper meaning to ‘who’s your daddy?’”

Line Crossed

Most fighters agree that while trash talk can be a valuable psychological tool, there’s a line that should not be crossed. Family members should never be targeted (unless you’re Colby Covington’s sister because she gets herself involved). Cormier expanded:

“There’s deeper meaning to the history and him going through that unnecessary step of having Dana call me on the phone so he could personally apologize for saying anything about my father when he just kind of goes back to it every time we start to argue.

So there’s deeper meaning to most of the stuff that we say. So outside of saying anything about my wife, and also the thing about daddy. Look, the guy’s not a good guy, so why would a scumbag like that have any limits?”

Trilogy?

It’s not impossible that a trilogy fight will happen. Jones holds one win over DC after their last fight was ruled a no-contest, despite ‘Bones’ becoming the first man to knock out Cormier. He tested positive for turinabol, a banned PED, after the fight and is currently awaiting USADA’s judgment.

It’s highly likely, that he’ll be back soon though, with a fight against fellow drug cheat and former UFC champion Brock Lesnar being rumored. If DC beats Stipe Miocic and Jones were to beat Lesnar, expect a heavyweight showdown. This is the UFC’s dream scenario.

Maybe ‘DC’ will finally be able to exorcise his demons.
