Old But Not Out… Mike Tyson Still Has Magic Power in His Fists…

Fabricio Werdum has fought the best heavyweights in the world. Cain Velasquez, Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem, Fedor Emelianenko… the list goes on and on. Sure, he hasn’t beaten all of them, and he lost his heavyweight strap after his first title defense, but he’s still one of the toughest men out there.

So, when he says Mike Tyson almost broke his nose, you’ve got to take him seriously. The pair were filming together in a recent movie role and got pretty close. It’s also the reason why Werdum wasn’t angry that the former heavyweight boxing champion and controversial legend almost hospitalized him.

If you don’t know who Tyson is, you shouldn’t be on this page. The former heavyweight champion, he smashed the likes of Trevor Berbick, Larry Holmes, and Frank Bruno, with the name ‘Iron’ Mike becoming synonymous with KO victories. Now he’s a film star in his own right.

Hard Hitter

Yes, he’s 52, but he’s got a pet tiger. Surely that’s a sign that this is a dude whose bad side you should keep away from? Tyson, instantly recognizable because of his face tattoo, has that combination of darkness and charisma that captures the imagination of many of his fans. Werdum is one of them. He explained to TMZ:

“It’s amazing. Mike Tyson punched my nose, too, an accident, but he punched me and almost he broke my nose. Because I’m an actor, he’s no actor too, but he’s good, he’s a funny guy, he’s a very nice guy, but he punch very hard.

It almost knocked down me, but it’s good. I feel good because it’s Mike Tyson, no other guy. Maybe other guy, I don’t feel good if they punch my face, but Mike Tyson’s OK.”

Legend

Tyson is a boxing legend with a definite dark side. Younger fans might recognize him more from appearances in movies like The Hangover, but he was arguably the most mobilizing heavyweight since Muhammad Ali. That’s how good he was.

However, his career went downhill dramatically after he sacked head coach Joe Rooney, the man many credited with his early success. Then there was that rape trial, which sentenced him to six years in prison. He served less than three years between 1992 and 1995.

However, right or wrong, it hasn’t hurt his career at all. Infinite books have been written about him, while he remains relevant in the media, with one-man tours, film and TV appearances, video game cameos and sponsorships all coming his way.

Unexpected

They say never meet your heroes, but at least Werdum was able to laugh it off. It doesn’t sound like he’s holding anything against Tyson. In fairness, if Mike Tyson broke my nose I’d probably apologize to him for the inconvenience I’ve caused him.

It’s not always like that though. Remember when Cody Garbrandt was whining about Jean-Claude Van Damme kicking him in the head, after making him stretch? Of course, you do, he’s still going on and on about it.
