Stockton’s Finest is Coming Back! Nate Diaz is Back in Training and Says That He Is The Real Champ…
It feels like forever since we’ve seen the Diaz brothers in action, but that could change very soon. Although Nick is still banned, it’s looking like Nate is close to making a return. At least according to his recent Instagram action.
The younger Diaz hasn’t appeared in the octagon since his close defeat in a rematch with Conor McGregor, back in August 2016. It’s widely expected that the pair will face each other to close off the trilogy, sometime in the near future. It would be an exciting boost for the UFC should Diaz return at some point this year.
It’s no secret that the organization has suffered from a lack of star power of late. After becoming the only fighter to beat McGregor in the UFC, Diaz established himself in the mainstream. While it may not be in the first half of the year, there’s no doubt that UFC President Dana White will want him back in the octagon as soon as possible.
Who Will He Fight?
It’s going to be fascinating to see who Diaz comes back against. He has fought mainly as a lightweight throughout his career. The problem is that the top of the division is as muddled as it has ever been. Currently, there are two belts and three contenders, so Diaz might have to think about another opponent.
The most lucrative option would be to finish off the trilogy against McGregor. In the past, the Irish man has said that he definitely thinks that the pair will face each other once again to end their saga.
The Woodley Option
Another possibility is that Diaz will face the current welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley. The pair were only recently linked to a potential fight, but in the end, nothing came of it. Apart from the two matchups against McGregor, Diaz has a couple of previous appearances in the division.
We’ve learned that rankings tend to matter less when money is involved, and that would be the main reason for this fight to happen. If Diaz were to beat Woodley and win the belt, we could see McGregor back to fight for a third title. Stranger things have happened.

The Real Champ
Diaz signaled that he’s coming back on Instagram. Of course, the opportunity to throw shade at his rival McGregor was a bonus. With trademark use of profanity, he wrote:
“Sick of sitting around waiting for you f-ckers to do shit there’s no excitement in this fight sh-t step your games up I’ll see u around may, June. Sincerely The Real Champ.”
With all the confusion at the top of the lightweight division, Diaz’s comments will bring a smile to the faces of many fight fans. He is known for controversial comments about other fighters taking performance-enhancing substances and has never been shy to stand up for himself against the UFC as an organization. Diaz is a breath of fresh air and he still has a lot to offer.
