Steve Erceg won his bout against Alessandro Costa in their preliminary card flyweight bout at UFC 295. Nonetheless, the victor came out of the cage with a hint of disappointment over his performance, suggesting he could have done better.

Last weekend, Astroboy won the bout via unanimous decision of 29-28, 29-28, and 29-28. Despite that, the figures and his overall fight were something that failed to impress him, with the fighter recalling how the opponent managed to drop him.

“Obviously, I didn’t want to get dropped,” Erceg said. “I was thinking I was going to work him on the shots and really outclass him. After I dropped him in the first round, I got too eager. As my dad said, I was trying to make it a man-battle instead of a thinking-battle. … I think it was me being bad, not him being good.”

Despite his dissatisfaction with the drop made by the opponent, Erceg believes they are not a perfect match as he’s ranked and Nono is not. With this, Erceg suggested that it would be easier to fight the No.9-ranked flyweight fighter Matt Schnell, who withdrew from their bout due to injury.

“I still think Alessandro Costa was better than Schnell was going to be,” Erceg said. “I’m not saying Schnell is bad or anything. I just thought stylistically and everything, Costa was a worse matchup for me. I still think… I should be in the top 15 fighting top 15 opponents. I just have got to be better.”
