Dana White has said that he was on a trip to Ireland in order to receive an award from a College (how or why this occurred is a mystery probably not worth investigating) and while he was there he was constantly bombarded with people telling him to sign Conor McGregor.
At the time Conor was both the featherweight and lightweight champion for Cage Warriors, an English based promotion. It didn’t take Conor long to dominate the promotion. He would debut in September of 2011 and by the end of 2012 had titles in 2 divisions and a 4-0 record, with only 1 opponent making it out of the 1st round.
Dana was convinced and within days of his trip Conor was signed to the UFC.
