UFC welterweight fighter Matt Brown commented on Mackenzie Dern’s recent UFC 295 bout against Jessica Andrade, who won it by delivering a right hand that resulted in a TKO win. According to Brown, while he is a fan of Dern, he found her performance significantly bad during the fight. With this, the male fighter pointed out issues involving Dern’s standup and wrestling, which he said also concern other female fighters.

“Andrade impressed me, but Mackenzie Dern looked so f****** terrible, and I love Mackenzie Dern,” Brown said. “I love her jiu-jitsu and watching her fight, but my god her standup, I can’t even describe how bad it looked. I love Mackenzie Dern, but holy s*** that was bad.”

As the male fighter underscored on The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast, Dern has a couple of issues before and during the fight. Aside from being unable to handle her emotions and personal issues, which the fighter admitted in her apology, Brown said that it was wrong for Dern to make a comfortable training environment around her.

“I’m not trying to convince her to come here [to train with me], but you’ve got to get away from the comforts of life when you’re getting ready for a camp,” Brown said. “I see people like her that train that way or they think that way, ‘I like being next to the beach and that’s where I want to have my training camp.’ It’s like, no, you’ve got to go through hell in training camp.”

Ultimately, Brown pointed out the problematic grappling technique of Dern, which he believes is one of the biggest issues among UFC women fighters.

“I want to ask all female fighters to do one thing for me, and I might even ask that you make this the headline,” Brown stressed. “All female fighters, please stop with the f****** head-arm throws. It’s f****** garbage.

“Unless you’re an expert at it, but even then you still don’t land in a great position. If you’re Mark Coleman, that’s a great position [at] UFC 12 with Dan Severn because you can break a f******* bowling bowl right there because he’s so strong. But get the f*** out of here with these godd*** head-arm throws. Stop it! It’s just a terrible technique.”

Despite all his points, Brown said that it is still not the end for Dern as she still has a lot to improve, adding it still depends on the female fighter on whether she will push herself or not.
