Prior to UFC 295, Mackenzie Dern already knew how dangerous Jessica Andrade would be in the cage. During the former’s UFC 295 media day interview last Wednesday, Dern disclosed going through a divorce but expressed determination to handle everything well. Unfortunately, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion lost and is now apologizing to her fans for being “caught in the emotional fight.”
To recall, during their bout at UFC 295, Andrade knocked down Dern four times, pushing the referee to intervene and wave off the fight. It was an impressive win for Andrade after losing three times prior to this fight. Dern earlier said that would be the primary motivation of the opponent, and Andrade proved it.
In her recent post to Instagram, the fighter thanked fans and supporters and apologized for “any disappointment” caused by her defeat. Admitting her emotional battles, Dern said she has “to work more calmly” and will be back soon.
“Everything happens at the right time. Of course I was wishing my best performance at MSG and not my first TKO loss, lol but I Trust in Gods plans! I have to learn to control my emotions! I got caught in the emotional fight, which wasn’t the plan. I wanted to do a lot, but not get in big exchanges, where it’s risky. I took 4 knockdowns, that was the first lol. Once again I was tested, given the opportunity and didn’t pass…”
With the latest loss, Dern has a 13-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC record. Meanwhile, Andrade’s record is now 25-12 MMA, 26-10 UFC.
