UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping seems to have landed himself in hot water here. According to this report, ‘The Count’ literally went berserk in New York…
Since winning the 185-pound title from Luke Rockhold at UFC 199, Michael Bisping has experienced a lot of harsh press. Perhaps not so much from the media, but instead fans and fellow fighters.
After knocking out ‘Rocky’ in spectacular fashion, ‘The Count’ rematched Dan Henderson at UFC 204. That decision led to an outcry from the MMA community, as ‘Hendo’ was unranked and well past retirement age.
Following his decision victory over Henderson, it was thought the division could get back to business as usual. Yoel Romero staked his claim for the title shot with a thunderous KO win against Chris Weidman.
The top end of middleweight was a killers row, but Bisping’s injury forced yet another unwanted interim title fight. Robert Whittaker ended Romero’s streak to capture the belt, but the madness was far from over.
Bisping Faces GSP…And Now a Lawsuit
With the return of former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre confirmed, the UFC looked to book ‘Rush’ against Tyron Woodley. When the current 170-pound champ put on a snoozer against Demian Maia, Dana White threw his toys out the pram.
St-Pierre was instead booked against Bisping, jumping past the top contenders and interim champion at middleweight. Bisping again caught heavy criticism, with fans claiming he was ducking the top flight contenders.
Now, in the midst of the hype for UFC 217 and Bisping’s second title defense, the brash Brit has caught a lawsuit for an alleged attack on a fellow gym member. Details below…
Bisping Chokes Gym Member
According to TMZ.com, ‘The Count’ went nuts in New York:
According to the suit, Bisping went crazy on Antonio Georgakopoulos for “taking his weights” without asking during a workout. Antonio claims Bisping called him all sorts of names including a “little punk” and an “idiot.”
After the verbal tirade, Antonio claims Bisping grabbed him by the throat and began to squeeze — cutting off oxygen. Antonio claims he was about to lose consciousness when another weight lifter intervened and broke it up.
Antonio says he’s had to see doctors for his injuries and now suffers from nightmares and anxiety as a result of the alleged attack.
He’s suing for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and more.
Joe Rogan Says UFC 217 is Already Tanking
“Bisping vs. GSP. Now, I’m hearing, that that’s not selling well, Madison Square Garden,” Rogan told Eddie Bravo and Brendan Schaub during this weekend’s Fight Companion podcast. “That’s unfortunate.”
“Here’s the thing, though. If you really stop and think about it, that was four years ago since (St-Pierre) last fought Jonny Hendricks. The people that are into the UFC now, they’re post-Ronda Rousey, post-Conor McGregor, the casual fans.”
“Georges does not look that good. You can be in great shape at 35 years old, but it really, completely helps if you were super active for a long time.”
