Jorge Masvidal is the man right now. The UFC’s first BMF champion, Masvidal is pure box office. This is because of his charisma and his ability to knock out anybody. To sum up, unless your name is Ben Askren, how could you not love ‘Gamebred?’
Even Darren Till showed respect to Masvidal after the Cuban-American beat Nate Diaz. However, now ‘Gamebred’ must carefully choose his next step. If he wants a title shot it will be there for him. But the reality is that fighting a wrestler like Colby Covington or Kamaru Usman may puncture his rise.
Instead, he wants a big-money fight against somebody like Conor McGregor or even a boxer. Both Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather have been linked to clashes with the popular MMA fighter. However, one man that Masvidal won’t wait for is Nick Diaz.

Money Talks
‘Gamebred’ insists that he isn’t waiting for Diaz to come out of his hiatus. Although it would be an incredible storyline that would be fantastic to promote, Nick is doing his thing. However, nobody knows if he’ll ever fight again. In short, Masvidal will fight whoever will earn him the most money. It’s really that simple.
“No, we’re not really. Time waits for no man. Nick’s got his own thing going on. When he gets cleared by USADA and everything comes correct, who knows when that time will be. I’m not waiting for no man,” Masvidal said to FanSided MMA. “So, if it happens, it happens. I’m just waiting for the biggest paycheck possible. If it’s Conor [McGregor] if it’s Floyd [Mayweather]. If it’s Nick. The quickest one and the one with the most dollar signs attached to it. That’s all it is.

Justified
Masvidal is open about being a mercenary right now. He doesn’t care who he fights as long as he makes a lot of money in the process. You can’t blame the man either.
“I’ve been in this sport for 16 years and to those new people listening or just saying, “Oh, he’s a money-hungry wh**e”. You’re right. I’m a wh**e. But, I’m also money hungry because I’ve been doing this 16 years. I fought the best of the best. Never said no, never had an injury to have me pulled out of a fight. I never missed weight.

No Shame
The Cuban-American succinctly summed up his situation. He doesn’t care what people think because he’s been in the game for too long. The lifespan of a professional fighter is very short so you’ve got to make the most of it while you can. That’s what he plans on doing. Belts don’t pay the bills.
“I played everything to the way that you’re supposed to, to earn these paychecks, so now I’m in a position to get big paychecks. I’m going to cash in on them. No matter what. I got different lottery tickets in my hand. It’s just a matter of time when I stop being lazy, go to the gas station and turn the scratch-offs in because I’ve been working for them. I already got them. Now, I just gotta go cash them in.”
After a long career, Masvidal is going to take advantage of peaking late. He wants to retire with no regrets. Finally, earning the big bucks will do that for him.
