We all know how good Kelvin Gastelum is but unfortunately, he has been in a tight lately. He is currently 1-4 in his last 5 fights and another loss could potentially cut him from the UFC. It has been a trend lately that a lot of UFC top contenders have been cut like Romero, Overeem, Woodley, and much more big names.

Gastelum went on to give Adesanya’s toughest fight in the division but sadly fell short. Had he won the fight, he would have won the interim belt and went on to face Whittaker for the undisputed belt. Despite getting a loss, many commended his performance to the point that fans wanted a rematch in the future.

For those not aware, Gastelum was a welterweight before but after missing weight numerous times he decided to move up and fight at the middleweights. Many still think that if Gastelum is disciplined in his weight cut he could be a problem among welterweights. He is usually the smaller guy when fighting at middleweights. At welterweight, he almost beat a prime Tyron Woodley.

Gastelum went on to beat legends like Michael Bisping, Ronaldo Souza earning him a title shot. His boxing is still one of the best in the business but the size disadvantage may be too much at middleweight.

His last fight was against Robert Whittaker and took it on short notice since Paulo Costa pulled out. Now he is also taking Costa’s original bout by stepping up to fight Jared Cannonier on 21 August. Will he be able to beat a powerful striker like Jared Cannonier?
