Khabib Nurmagamedov is On Top of the World Right Now… When He’s Not Running Around With Sheikhs, He’s Battering UFC Fighters… Now He’s Got a Warning for Arch-Nemesis Conor McGregor…
What a year 2018 was for Khabib Nurmagamedov. He became the lightweight champion by claiming the vacant strap against Al Iaquinta. Then he validated it by beating the former champion, Conor McGregor. When you add in his ludicrous 27-0 unbeaten record, you can see why he’s one of the most feared fighters on the planet today.
Khabib’s style is just so darn oppressive. He wrestles you to the ground and then proceeds to brutalize you until the referee stops it or he gets a submission. If it goes to a decision then you can guarantee that you’ve just gone through a draining 25 minutes of hell.
The Dagestani’s relationship with Conor McGregor is one of the most sincerely toxic in MMA. Now Khabib has a warning for the Irishman if he chooses to attend Khabib’s next fight which will be at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, this September.
McGregor is known for not exactly respecting the law. We’ve seen videos of him speeding away from court after literally being fined for committing driving offences. He’s spent nights in jail in New York and Florida for smashing buses and phones. He’s even attacked MMA referee Marc Goddard at a Bellator event. The list goes on and on. Khabib warned him that they won’t take kindly to his antics if he does that in Abu Dhabi.
“It will be more difficult to leave Abu Dhabi than New York,” Nurmagomedov said on Russia’s Rossiya-24 television channel. “If he plans to come, he should sit and watch the fights because it will be impossible to pull any of his underhanded tricks there. Abu Dhabi is no place for show-offs. Let him come if he plans to come, but his shenanigans won’t work there.”
It’s funny that Khabib said ‘Abu Dhabi’ is no place for showoffs when people drive around in gold-plated supercars. It’s literally a haven for superheroes. Also, there’s a little bit of irony in this situation. The lightweight champion is no angel himself.
He’s the one who started the UFC 229 brawl when he leapt off of the cage and attacked Dillon Danis. Not that we blame him. There was also that crazy brawl between his crew and the Diaz brothers at a World Series of Fighting event back in 2015.
Khabib will take on the interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 242. He is naturally a heavy favourite, with ‘The Diamond’ hoping to go out there and shock the world. Poirier has looked excellent since his move up to 155lbs and has well and truly earned his spot by beating Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez.
Now he hopes to outbox Khabib and become the legitimate champion. Meanwhile, the Russian fighter is planning on going out there and doing what he has done to everybody else. We don’t mind who wins as long as Tony Ferguson is next in line.
