Just last week, a Chinese MMA fighter was seen laying the smack down on a Tai Chi master. In what was supposed to be an even match, the MMA fighter proved to be too much for the traditional martial artist.
The MMA fighter needed only 10 seconds to take care of the Tai Chi master, and it wasn’t pretty. The video immediately went viral on social media.
MMA Fighter Xu Xiaodong Became an Overnight Sensation
The close-knit martial arts community had mixed reactions. Some knew all too well that MMA was the real deal and that it would be tough to beat a real fighter. Others still believed in fairy tales and believed that traditional martial artists still ruled the land. As a result of his overnight popularity however, the MMA fighter now has many new challenges from other martial artists.
It is learned that the MMA fighter’s name is actually Xu Xiaodong. He is now the hottest topic in China. The Tai Chi master he beat was Wei Lei and the viral fight video took place in Chengdu, Sichuan province.
The much-watched fight put to rest the heated debate on which style was more effective. Was it MMA or traditional martial arts? Some believe the argument has only just begun.
He put a 10-second beatdown on a Tai Chi master last week
It is also recently discovered that other martial artists have now issued challenges to Xu.
“I will surely accept the challenge,” Xu said on his Weibo account.
“He is deeply biased against the traditional martial arts and his words were insulting. I challenged him so he could have a fresh perspective of tai chi and the true traditional martial arts,” said Lu.
Two more Tai Chi masters, Lu Xing and Wang Zhanhai have issued challenges. Lu has already invited Xu for a public duel and vowed to “teach him a lesson”.
Guangzhou native and Chinese boxing specialist Shangxian who practices Shaolin Meihua Zhuang also expressed interest. Yi Long, a Chinese monk known for his martial arts skill has also made his intentions known.
So you see, Xu has no shortage of willing challengers after experiencing instant internet notoriety. MMA of course, is known as a modern form of combat, encompassing various fighting disciplines. There have been many street fights involving MMA trained fighters going up against traditionally trained martial artists. Almost all of them have ended up in favor of MMA fighters.
Now more “martial arts masters” want a piece of him
To be fair, Xu said that he is also a fan of traditional Chinese martial arts. However, he stressed that he thought they were “all about form but not practical”. Tai Chi of course “could not be compared to real combat tactics”.
What do you guys think about that? Although Xu has no professional MMA experience, he is clearly making a name for himself in the fight scene. Too bad all he is beating up nowadays are old martial arts “masters” who couldn’t hold a candle to real fighters.
To look at things at a different perspective however, it could be just a matter of time before Xu runs into a real martial artist that actually has a fighting chance.
Pride. Seriously, some people need to let go of their pride, and accept that there are better ways of doing things then the one they know. I love traditional martial arts, but when it comes to one-on-one combat with MMA rules, I give it to the guy who has trained in MMA styles. I love things like traditional Kenpo, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Capoeira, etc. But training in wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing all have their place as well. The best part is, training in something like Kenpo or Karate and then also training in BJJ and wrestling gives you fresh humility and perspectives you didn’t have before. It broadens your horizons and makes you a better martial artist and a more open-minded person.
Hell, even here in America I’ve been to schools that believe all you should train in is this particular art and it’s all you should ever need or want. I strongly disagree. If you’re a traditional martial artist who looks down your nose at MMA fighters… seriously, swallow a little pride and check out some classes. You’ll find that a lot of these guys are incredibly hard working and excellent martial artists. You may even have a ton of fun as you learn something you never did before, and you can do it without a 10 second knockout that goes viral on the internet.
I agree with everything you explained. Connor will dominate MayWeather.
They are fighting a boxing match Potsie
The old karate, kung fu, JJ etc that they used to tech was total garbage. Only boxing worked. And surprisingly wrestling.
It’s all good in it’s own way if correctly applied. That includes boxing and wrestling. I bet your experience in fighting styles is less than 5 years. Your ignorance is deafening. My background? 42 years of Judo, Kodokan and Kosen. Boxing. Cross trained with BJJ guys also. Have respect for all MAs and have learned useful stuff from them all. Garbage? nope… You are very, very wrong, Ron.
Nonsense. Let me me guess, you grew up watching Karate Kid, Kung Fu, and Bruce Lee and CVD movies. Hollywood nonsense. Truth is that non contact arts are phony. Better than nothing obviously but not based on reality ie real fighting as this video shows. Only contact arts like boxing, wrestling, kick boxing, Muay Tai etc are real. In fact the old arts were commercialized and schools sold useless katas and belts for pure business purposes. The orig UFC cards exposed those phony arts for what they were. Frauds. There’s no fool like an old fool.
nope… i won’t let you guess… oh well you did… and guess what? you guessed wrong. most of that stuff happened after i’d grown already. never really watched any anyways. and now you’re insulting me by calling me an old fool. if what you write is what you know… then you know little. if you’re ever going to insult anybody have the decency to do it to their face…. otherwise talk respectfully.
Lol respect? You first respond to my post to tell me that my ‘ignorance is deafening’ then tell me to talk respectfully when I respond in kind? That’s not how etitiquette works either. That’s twice your wrong now.
You writings imply amazing ignorance. So let us assume that your writings are not the sum total of your knowledge. Why don’t you share your ma background. I won’t try to guess… Just tell me… I told you about my background… Your turn
Interesting Daniel, he points out your hypocrisy, and instead of addressing it directly, you choose to again call out his supposed ignorance? I guess if your point was to admit you are a hypocrite and don’t care, job well done.
Lol no. Only a moron would disclose personal info about themselves to strangers on the internet. Strike three.
really a weak response. font of ma knowledge who refuses to give any indication as to his ma background. i say again… you are ignorant on the subject of ma. it wasn’t meant as an insult, just that you really do have little knowledge of what you are talking about. payton, your supporter will be ignored.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. – Mark Twain
ok… noted.. thx for the advice
I should have taken your advice Ron, although it has been somewhat amusing watching daniel dig his hole deeper and deeper and get more and more confused. He’s like a dog that keeps chasing his tail thinking another dog is attacking him.
Haha yes you can’t argue with stupid. He is like a yappy little dog isn’t he. He just doesn’t know it. Amusing yet annoying haha.
Enjoy your love-in guys. Pathetic losers both of you…
Haha.
whatever
It’s a pretty basic tactic to ignore those who point out your weakness. You are a hypocrite and nobody cares about your made up MA background. You can’t handle that so you deflect, again.
my ma background made up? u r totally wrong. pathetic… u r just another wannabe videogames ma player who knows little. go away kiddo.
Apparently education is not your strong point either because you continue to miss the point and continue to deflect. I’ll just let that go since your intellect clearly prevents you from understanding. As for the other nonsense you chose to deflect to, I don’t play video games and pretty sure I’m older than you, “kiddo”. People who spout off about their MA experience but fail to demonstrate even a shred of knowledge in any of the disciplines listed are 99% of the time full of crap. Based on your deflection, there is a 100% chance you are not in the 1% group.
Education? 2 degrees in Engineering, Power and Electrical. Intellect…99.617 percentile (15SD). Am 60 years of age. No deflection. MA exp? 2nd Dan Judo and Hontai Yoshin JJ. Rolled with BJJ guys many times. Boxed some also. Muai Thai, some, Aikido, some. Wanna gimme ur stats for comparison? If not then just STFU…
Those who speak the loudest, know the least. Sure, I could tell you about my degrees and what my MA background is, but you would believe me about as much as I believe you, this is the internet. The real point here has absolutely nothing to do with your experience and yet you keep deflecting to that. You clearly have no clue what deflection means since you seem to think stating your age proves you aren’t doing it. The issue here is about you being a hypocrite, are you ever going to actually respond to that? I’ll be waiting for another deflecting response touting your fake experience and degrees.
I have not asserted that you’re a liar, but that you’re ignorant. You OTOH call me a liar. You slight my education, my ma background intellect etc. Then when I disprove your insults you call me a liar. No point continuing this dialogue. And I am not a hypocrite. Calling you ignorant on the subject of ma would be obvious to any experienced martial artist… No deflection… Fact.
I see, so in your mind it’s ok to call someone ignorant, but then get your fragile feelings upset when they in turn point out how ridiculous it is to try and sell yourself as an expert on the internet simply by saying you are an expert? You haven’t said a single thing that would indicate you have any MA experience. Apparently focus isn’t your strong suit either since you seem very confused here. You actually never called me ignorant, you called Ron ignorant. I’ve never once said anything concerning MA so to claim I have no experience makes absolutely zero sense. You are so busy deflecting you don’t even remember who you are talking to anymore. The only fact in this thread so far is that you are the epitome of a hypocrite.
Yi long might put this guy in the ground. (Btw he just presents himself as a Shaolin monk, he’s really a san shou fighter with some Shaolin training, but he isn’t a monk)
One thing that always irks me in stories like this (and, I admit, it’s a technical detail): MMA is not a style. It is, as the name MIXED Martial Arts implies, a mixture of styles. Not to take anything away from MMA fighters. They’re definitely mean sons-of-bitches, and I wouldn’t want to pick a fight with one.
Just my opinion. Don’t like it? Sue me. 🙂
The difference between an mma fighter and a “martial arts master” … an mma fighter peaks in his 30’s … a martial arts master gets more deadly the older he gets.
Youth, aggressiveness, and more time in actual fights will usually win over lot’s of training experience “that lacks combat experience”. I’ve worked as a bouncer off and on for almost 20 years, and have trained with some great martial artists, I see the difference first hand. The MMA guys study a very small tool box of martial arts application and thus spend more time getting great with those limited tools. Thus the outcome goes to the one that trained for the situation at hand. Now if someone attacked with a bat or knife, a martial arts master might fair better there, as most MMA peeps don’t train for that at all.
I saw a documentary once where all “Masters” who were asked stated that true karate fights typically lasted only a couple of seconds and were fought with death blows…whoever hit first won and whoever got hit died. It wasn’t a boxing match, it was a death fight. I think it turns out a lot different when you get a chop to the throat.
It seems that Martial Artists do OK as long as the script is followed: any deviation from that system script presents a problem.
