Wow, some interesting news coming from last night’s UFC Fight Night 119 in Brazil. Looks like the crowds weren’t the only ones mad at Colby Covington…

UFC Fight Night 119 popped off in Brazil last night and provided substantial amounts of drama. Considering the low key status of the event, albeit, with some great names, it’s surprising to see such a lively aftermath.

Thanks, in part, to Colby Covington, UFC Fight Night 119 received a lot of exposure. Featured in the co-main event against Demian Maia, Covington faced a hometown favorite with a killer ground game.

Unlike many of his previous opponents, Maia was unable to exert any ground control. Battering and cutting Maia, Covington emerged the victor by way of dominant decision, but he was just getting started.

During a post-fight interview that nearly caused a riot, Covington blasted the attending Brazilian crowds as ‘filthy animals,’ before labeling Sao Paolo a ‘dump.’

Covington Reveals Events That Led to This Speech…And a Confrontation With Lyoto Machida

Speaking to today, Covington says he was spat on by the Brazilian crowd before even entering the octagon. These actions apparently led to his fired up speech. The victorious wrestler also claims he was confronted by Machida before the Brazilian fought Brunson:

“The UFC were just a little afraid for my safety so we were like rushed back to the hotel with security,” Covington said. “I had to go right back to my room and I wasn’t allowed out anywhere so I just bunkered down in my room. That’s why things happened the way they did.

“I think it’s ridiculous, I can’t believe we’re even talking about this,” Covington said, when asked about the possibility of receiving a punishment from the UFC for what he said. “Chael [Sonnen] and Conor [McGregor] like what have they said. They’ve said like ten things, homophobic, racial.

“I’m poking fun man. No one knows what happened to me on the walkout. They’re f***ing spitting at me, telling me I’m going to die, telling me f*** you and your mum and this and that. They’re throwing cups at me on the walkout, they tried to grab me as I walked out. I mean are you kidding me? I said they were filthy animals because they were being animals spitting at me and throwing stuff on me before the fight. This is on the walkout. But I’m the bad guy because I say the country is a dump?

“When I went backstage there were still a lot of Brazilian people mad. All the Brazilian fighters were like ‘F*** you, I’m going to kill you if I see you. You’re dead.’ Even Lyoto Machida was focused on me saying ‘You disrespected Brazil. F*** you, I’ll f*** you up.’ I was like why are you worried about me, you got a fight with Derek Brunson in two seconds.”

Machida went on to get viciously KO’d by Brunson in the main event. Could this spat backstage have played a role in his loss? Who knows, but one thing’s for sure-Covington probably isn’t welcome in Brazil anymore.
