UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway is Sick and Tired of Hearing About Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fighting in the UFC…

It turns out that not everybody wants to hear rumors about Floyd Mayweather potentially fighting under MMA rules. They’ve only been spreading for the past six months since the American took on Conor McGregor in Las Vegas last August.

McGregor is, of course, the UFC lightweight champion. One of the great selling points of their fight was how well Mayweather would do against an unconventional elite fighter – albeit one making his professional boxing debut.

On the night Mayweather was dominant and won by stoppage in the tenth round. McGregor has been pushing for a rematch, but this time on his territory. Mayweather has escalated matters by uploading videos of him entering MMA cages and training with MMA gloves. Well, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is sick of hearing about it.

Rising Star

Holloway is one of the UFC’s rising stars. The Hawaiian is incredibly unbeaten in twelve fights, with his last loss coming against former featherweight champion McGregor back in 2014. He’s also the only man other than McGregor to beat Jose Aldo, except Holloway has done it twice now.

Anyway, as incredible as it may seem, he’s had enough of hearing about Mayweather coming to the UFC. ‘Blessed’ isn’t happy with the media nor the promotional arm of the UFC, who’ve made no secret of the fact that they’d happily pay over the odds to get Mayweather into an octagon. UFC President Dana White has openly said it.

Shut Down

Fake news was the catchphrase of 2017 and Holloway is shouting it out to the heavens. He tweeted:

“Stop giving this sh-t attention and let’s actually talk bout people who’s in the sport doing it. If the guy wanted to fight it would have been done. Let’s be real.”

As you can see from the tweet above, Holloway wants the media and his promotion to focus on active MMA fighters. He’s understandably frustrated that active UFC fighters are being held back by a narrative that doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.

Unlikely

‘Blessed’ may be relieved to hear that negotiations between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather appear to have broken down. McGregor wrote on Instagram the other day:

“I am happy for Floyd and his recent announcement that he is out of these current fight negotiations.
It is the reason I never seeked the rematch in the first place. I was happy for him in retirement.
My game is a very unforgiving one. It is not like other games.
I understand completely him staying retired. I will now carry on in my negotiations and see where it goes.
Have a great retirement Junior.
Now come here and give your old man a hug for old times sake. I’m proud of you son.
Yours truly,
Senior.”

Let’s be real though. Mayweather is 41 next month, with no MMA experience. UFC commentator Joe Rogan openly dismissed the boxing legend’s chances in a cage against McGregor. Holloway could be about to get his wish. Yes, this story looks close to fizzling out, but the media can’t be blamed for reporting about the world’s most successful athlete.
