Conor McGregor has a new claim about his comeback fight, saying it would be at UFC 300 in April. And although the Irish didn’t mention any name in his latest post, Michael Chandler immediately took the challenge.

The announcement came after “The Notorious” made an earlier claim that he would face Chandler on June 29 in Las Vegas. According to McGregor, it would be a 185-pound match, sending fans and the MMA world into a craze. However, UFC didn’t confirm any of the details, with CEO Dana White denying that the fight would happen on the said date and location. Ultimately, the executive revealed that the promotion remained clueless about its plans for McGregor’s return.

After this, the MMA superstar has another claim, saying he would instead appear months earlier: April 13. In his recent post, McGregor claims to have sealed a “deal” involving the historic UFC 300 card.

This follows an earlier statement by the fighter when a fan asked whether he would be in the event, suggesting he is “in” for the UFC 300. According to the fighter and McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, the team was also pushing for the date.

“I am confident we [will] get the set date,” said the Irish fighter in November. “There is no one holding no one back. A lot goes on behind the scenes but all involved are working hard to make it happen.”

Now, it seems the plan is back, and Chandler will follow wherever McGregor wants to go. To recall, the American fighter remains inactive in hopes of getting the fight against McGregor. With this, although McGregor announced that they would fight in a division new to both of them, Chandler accepted the challenge without any fuss. McGregor didn’t mention his name in his latest post, but Chandler owned the announcement as something addressed to him.

While this sounds like good news to fans, it is important to note that it should be taken with a pinch of salt, especially with McGregor’s bluffing character. Analyst and retired fighter Chael Sonnen pointed this out after White negated McGregor’s June claim.

“As a matter of fact, if you want to know what I think’s going on, I think Conor’s having a hard time getting this fight,” explained Sonnen. “And I think Conor has now gone to the public, stated a date that he knows is available, got Chandler to back him up and they’re doing this to work into this bout agreement backwards, which is fascinating.”
