One of the most feared heavyweight boxers of all time chimes in on Conor McGregor’s boxing skills…again
UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor made a great deal of money last weekend. Attempting to dethrone one of the boxing greats, ‘The Notorious’ made his pro debut against Floyd Mayweather.
Battling the odds and heavy criticism of his chances, McGregor ended up giving a good account of himself. Although it was nowhere near enough to win, McGregor lost in probably the best way possible.
Against an ultra-talented, widely experienced and technical wizard like Mayweather, the tenth round TKO loss was respectable at least. Albeit quite the spectacle, the Mayweather vs. McGregor bout yielded an unexpected aftermath.
Did Mayweather carry McGregor that far into the fight? Maybe so, but the entertainment levels of this fight far exceeded Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. McGregor also managed to land some solid shots on his opponent, something Mayweather’s recent opponents have done in low volume.
Mike Tyson’s Comments on McGregor’s Boxing Future
Before the bout with Mayweather, heavyweight legend Mike Tyson was quite vocal about McGregor’s chances. At first, he thought the fight was a mixed rules MMA vs. boxing clash, and so was positive on McGregor’s chances.
When ‘Iron Mike’ found out it was a boxing match, he was quite stern about McGregor:
“McGregor is going to get killed in boxing! I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy? “McConor” put his dumbass in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out because this guy (Floyd) has been doing this (boxing) all his life since he was a baby.”
“Conor can’t kick and grab and stuff so he won’t stand much of a chance. McGregor took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing! No way (he knocks out Mayweather) it’s got a circus atmosphere. Floyd never met a character like this. It’s so funny, man. I never thought it was gonna happen. It’s sucker rules for McGregor.”

Iron Mike Likes McGregor in Boxing
“Listen, he’s got a big set of balls just to go in the ring, a guy who never did that before, and he went 10 rounds.” Tyson said on Luke Thomas’ radio show.
“He should’ve went down, the guy stopped it a little too quick,” Tyson said. “McGregor is better than I thought he was as a fighter. I knew he’d get knocked out, but I didn’t think he would last that long.
He’s capable of doing anything else. He can do it if he wants to. I would say go back to UFC, but if you get paid more money boxing I would box,” Tyson said. “I was there, it was really exciting.”
