Boxing Legend Mike Tyson has Spoken Out in Defence of Conor McGregor… ‘Iron Mike’ Insists That the Irishman is a Wonderful Person…
Conor McGregor has been the subject of criticism over the past few weeks for punching an old man in a pub in Dublin. He allegedly sucker-punched the old guy after his fellow patron at the Marble Arch in Drimnagh turned down a shot of his whiskey. That went down last April but the video footage is just a week old on the internet.
Yesterday, ‘The Notorious’ did his first major interview for almost a year. He spoke to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani for about an hour, revealing his remorse for his actions and also outlining his hopes and plans for the future. It was a very compelling discussion between the two men.
Now Mike Tyson has come out in support of McGregor. You might not think that the heavyweight champion is the best judge of character in the world… but there you go.

Wonderful Person
We’re not sure if having a jailed rapist speak out in your defence will do much to raise your credibility, but anyway, Tyson did his best to speak positively about the controversial Irish MMA fighter. McGregor and Tyson have smoked weed together in the past and enjoyed each other’s company.
“He’s a wonderful person. He’s a really kind man and he’s gonna get good karma for that,” Tyson said … “I believe that.”
He also added that McGregor deserves ‘another chance.’ The old man he punched might disagree with him there but it’s likely that public opinion will swing back with the Irishman if he gets back in the cage soon and wins in dominant fashion.
Remorse
McGregor told Helwani that he was full of remorse for his actions and wanted to to take full responsibility. In a revealing and startlingly honest discussion he explained that he knows he was totally in the wrong:
“In reality, it doesn’t matter what happened. I was in the wrong. That man deserved to enjoy his time in the pub without it ending the way it did. And although it was five months ago and I tried to make amends and I made amends back then, it’s still – that doesn’t even matter.
“I was in the wrong. I must come here before you and take accountability and take responsibility. I owe it to the people that have been supporting me. I owe it to my mother, my father, my family. I owe it to the people who trained me in martial arts.”
Disgusting
As you might imagine, not everybody sees it the same way as Tyson. Firas Zahabi – head coach of Tristar Gym and Georges St. Pierre – revealed his disgust at what McGregor did. In a Youtube live broadcast he said:
“I don’t care what anybody says. It is indefensible. There is no defense to this, except this guy is a pathetic, sorry excuse for a human being. What a disgusting display. I don’t care how much money you have, I don’t care how famous you are in the world. If this is the type of person you are, your value is zero. Your value is zero.”
He didn’t pull any punches there. McGregor should have.
