Not too long ago 22-year old MMA bantamweight Stephen Cervantes was 6W-0L and on his way to a likely successful MMA career. Now he has been arrested and facing charges of rape and child molestation.
In fact this is the second time in as many years that similar charges have been pressed against Cervantes, who has been affiliated with Team Jackson-Winklejohn in the past and also with Luttrell’s MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
It makes one wonder if the city of Albuquerque is getting a little sick of having so many MMA fighters in their community. This was the city where Jon Jones caused a multi-car collision and then fled the scene, and also where Diego Brandao was charged for bringing a gun into a strip club and assaulting someone. Now a pro MMA fighter has been committing sexual assault against minors in the area as well.
Cervantes had recently just lost his first MMA fight, his record dropping to 6W-1L. The loss came way of a first round submission (neck crank) to a real submission ace out of Guam, Kyle “Boom” Reyes. Somewhere in Guam, Reyes must be feeling extra good about that win today. 8 of Reyes’ 11 pro wins have been via submission.
