Matt Serra
Having compiled a 4-4 run in the UFC, Matt Serra was at a crossroads in his career back in 2005 following a loss to Karo Parisyan.
However, in 2006 Serra was given a lifeline when the UFC offered him a spot on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ Season 4 – a special edition of the reality show featuring former stars trying to fight their way back into the Octagon.
Serra made the most of the opportunity and got to the final with wins over Pete Spratt and Shonie Carter, where he’d defeat Chris Lytle to become the TUF winner and win an immediate welterweight title shot against Georges St-Pierre.
No-one gave Serra a chance of defeating the dominant champion at UFC 67, but ‘The Terror’ shocked the world by rocking GSP in the opening round and then swarming on him to secure a TKO finish and one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.
Serra would lose the immediate rematch, but the fan favorite’s place in the history books was already assured.
