The flyweight division doesn’t have much activity to offer, and Brandon Moreno has noticed that. And now that he’s set to face the same face again in Brandon Royval, the former two-time division champ admitted that it is now “kind of boring.”

Moreno will face Royval in the UFC’s event in Mexico City. “The Assassin Baby” was supposed to fight Amir Albazi, but the opponent had to withdraw due to an injury, giving Royval a chance for a rematch. It will be a redeeming moment for “Raw Dawg” not only to get back to the winning column after his recent title shot defeat to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 296 but also to avenge his UFC 255 TKO loss to Moreno. However, Moreno sees things in an entirely different way.

While it is true that the rematch offers just pure positive things for Royval, Moreno stressed that he could get nothing out of it. For him, a win will not contribute to his position in the promotion, but a loss could drag him down.

“I know Brandon Royval is going to come very motivated,” Moreno told MMA Junkie in an interview. “He has nothing to lose and everything to win. … For me, it’s just to make a statement and keep my name there for the flyweight championship in the future.”

Despite this, Moreno knows that he has no control over the matter and no other choice but to take the fight. Ultimately, whether it is an exciting or boring fight, he knows that the only option is to win.

“If you watch my record in the last years since 2020, I’m always fighting with the same guys,” Moreno said. “I’m just kind of tired – it’s kind of boring, but it is what it is. I was excited for this fight against Amir Albazi because new body, new game plan, new everything.

“So I was excited for that, but then he had to pull out for an injury. This is how this sport works, and I understand. Brandon Royval jumped for the opportunity. It’s tiring, it’s boring, but a fight is a fight, a win is a win, and I need this win to keep my name there.”
