Nate Diaz Has Responded to Claims that He Will Fight Georges St. Pierre in Los Angeles…
The MMA world blew up the other day with news that negotiations are underway for a fight between Nate Diaz and Georges St. Pierre. The story is totally legitimate because it came straight from UFC President Dana White’s mouth. When has he ever been known to tell lies?
Then, on Thursday, the story continued with news leaking out of Georges St. Pierre’s camp that his coaches had no idea that this fight was in the works. The response to this was generally cynical as people assumed they were just playing hard to get with the contract situation.
However, the news has developed and this time it has come straight from Nate Diaz’s official Facebook page. If Diaz is to be believed – and he is usually way too honest for his own good – then you shouldn’t get too excited for this one just yet.

When and Where?
The story goes that Diaz would face St. Pierre in the Stockton fighter’s native California. UFC 227 goes down in Los Angeles on August 4, in the Staples Arena. It would be the co-main event to T.J. Dillashaw vs Cody Garbrandt II. According to White, Alexander Gustafsson would be also be welcoming Luke Rockhold up to the light-heavyweight division.
Those are three potentially great fights, so it’s no wonder fans got excited. It turns out White might actually have been a bit devious. By letting the cat out of the bag, he was actually trying to put pressure on the fighters to sign. Not cool Dana. Not cool.

Diaz Speaks
Nate Diaz released a statement on Facebook that included all of his trademarks. He accused St. Pierre of abusing banned substances and beating his older brother Nick while overweight. He wrote:
“Gsp cheated when he fought my brother he was on steroids he was overweight and they let him because we were in Montreal and his boy gave nick a bad iv now they selling u wolf tickets on me gsp you can clear that sh*t up or fight yourself cheater”
Woah. I wouldn’t start planning your trip to LA just yet so. There looks like there is a long way to go before these two step into an octagon together.
Betting Favorite
For what it’s worth, if it does happen that both men sign on the dotted line, GSP is the bookies favorite. Michael Bisping and Kenny Florian also favor the Canadian to beat Diaz comfortably. It’s not surprising considering Diaz has struggled against wrestlers in the past, while ‘Rush’ is also a much bigger man.
The main difficulty that St. Pierre would have is that he would face a brutal cut down to 155, having just fought at middleweight. He’s also been struggling with ulcerative colitis and isn’t getting any younger. It will be fascinating to see if these two can overcome the obstacles in their way.
