Nate Diaz is reportedly making major guaranteed money to fight…

It’s been 16 months but Nate Diaz is ready to return to the UFC. According to recent speculation, the wheels are already in motion for Diaz to face former UFC lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez, in his return fight.

This same fight had previously been offered to Nate but the Stockton-native opted to publicly LOL at Dana White in response.

Alvarez previously fought Nate’s Cesar-Gracie teammate, Gilbert Melendez, at UFC 188 in Mexico City. The judges awarded Alvarez a controversial split-decision that night. In his most recent fight, Alvarez knocked out Justin Gaethje at UFC 218 in a fight which was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Many believe Eddie Alvarez makes the perfect next opponent for Nate. Both fighters are names known to casual fans due to their bouts with Conor McGregor and both are known for having exciting fights. It’s the kind of bout which has the potential to turn a casual observer into a hardened fan.

Nate Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez in the works?

Alvarez appeared on the MMA Hour recently with Ariel Helwani. On the show, he was asked where he believes Nate ranks in the lightweight division.

“He’s up there, I barely look at rankings anymore, because it’s so subjective. I don’t look at rank. I think guys that get ranked are just guys that the UFC is trying to put in title contention. Is kind of what it seems like.”

“He’s up there man, and to be honest with you, I’m just trying to get the biggest names, and I’ve done in the very beginning with the UFC. I just want the biggest names. I feel like people tune in for that. they want to see the biggest names fight each other.”

Does Alvarez Have Heat with Nate Diaz?

Considering Nate previously shunned the idea of fighting Alvarez, the former lightweight champ was asked if he and the Diaz brothers have a rivalry brewing.

I’m cool with these guys. Nick came to my after party in Texas, after I fought Dustin Poirier.”

“Nick was being kicked out of the club, and my manager had an after party where we got to stay later and Nick came up. I’ve always been cool with the Diaz [brothers].”

How Much is Nate Diaz Guaranteed Per Fight

Talk then turned to how much money Nate Diaz is paid per fight. To this, Eddie claims to have intimate knowledge of the situation. According to him, Alvarez hired the same management team Nate uses and was able to obtain details about how much money Nate is guaranteed per fight.

“It’s purely up to Nate Diaz if he wants to rumble or not. He said a lot of stuff. So we’ll see. It’s on him.”

According to Alvarez, all Nate cares about is money.

“And the thing is, they say, ‘He jut wants money, he wants money.’ Let me tell the fans something…”

“I know Nate’s contract, I know it, I know exactly what he gets. I hired his management when I was doing my McGregor deal. So, I know his deal in and out. Nate’s getting paid… MONEY! He’s going to make millions regardless of who he fights.”

Alvarez continued, “If he fights me he’s going to make over a million dollars, guaranteed. Don’t worry about Nate getting paid. If he don’t want to fight, it’s because he don’t want to fight the opponent. He’s going to make money.”

Very few fighters are guaranteed significant money in their contracts. According to Alvarez, however, Nate is guaranteed 7-digits per fight.
