Damn, maybe she really is BACK!?!
Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is truly a pioneer of the sport. Whether you love or hate her, there’s no denying Rousey’s influence on the game. Without her outspoken antics and wild performances, women’s MMA would be a spec on the map.
During her reign as champion, ‘Rowdy’ set all the records that are worth holding. Finishing opponents with dominant submissions and knockouts, the hype surrounding her in late 2015 was insane.
The Rise & Fall
By the time Rousey was booked in to face Holly Holm, she was a superstar in every respect. Much like Conor McGregor, she had a huge following of fans, but also those eager to see her fail.
Her meteoric rise was met with an equally astonishing fall, as Ronda Rousey was dethroned at UFC 193. The promotion’s big trip to Australia hadn’t worked out quite as planned, and their biggest asset at the time took a year’s leave.
First Loss
After Rousey’s first loss, a wave of negative media and fan reactions was aimed at her. This was followed by a dark period of depression for the previously dominant champion. Uncertain times laid ahead for ‘Rowdy.’
Then, just last month, it was revealed that Rousey was coming back. Facing new champion, and the third since her own reign, Amanda Nunes, Rousey will return and UFC 207. Since that announcement, we’ve seen small amounts of training footage, but mostly grainy mobile phone recordings, until now.
The UFC released this electrifying UFC 207 preview, and it shows Rousey going all out. Has her striking improved since the old days? Check it out for yourself, the training footage starts at around the 1:10 mark and continues for some four minutes.
