The Nick Diaz army is back, as Nick just made a done deal with the UFC to face former UFC welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler. For those not aware, it is actually a rematch and it took them 17 years to book their second encounter. The fight is scheduled for UFC 266.
It’s done. Nick Diaz (@nickdiaz209) has signed a bout agreement to face Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 in September, his attorney Ross Goodman tells ESPN. He’s back. pic.twitter.com/9awUGrJBri

Both fighters have already fought in the past but it was so long ago and it was not even their best years and it certainly not their prime years fighting for the second time. In their first fight, it was Diaz who knocked out a durable Robbie Lawler.
Nick Diaz is one of those stars that even though hasn’t fought in a while, his fanbase is still massive compared to those of the active fighters. The Diaz fanbase are a huge part in the MMA community mainly because of their attitude inside and outside the Octagon. They always ring fireworks in a fight and it is never a dull moment if you have Diaz inside the Octagon.
Nick Diaz will make his long awaited return, his last fight was against Anderson Silva and it was back in 2015. Not only that but prior to that, he also suffered back to back losses against Carlos Condit and George St Pierre.
As for Robbie Lawler, he is on a losing skid. He may have been active, but he is certainly not the best version of Robbie Lawler. In his defense, he has been facing top contenders like RDA, Askren, Covington and Magny. It is certainly hard to compete at such a high level for a long time and Lawler’s last performance were not good.
It is certainly a good fight to make mainly because both are coming off a losing streak and to top it all of it is a rematch. They have been in the MMA for so long and it makes in terms of competitiveness of the fight on paper. Will Lawler avenge his loss or will Diaz make his long awaited comeback one of the most memorable?
