Every UFC fighter would love a spot at the UFC 300 in April. Paddy Pimblett, however, begs to differ. For the Briton, there are other things that are far more important, like his wife and the twins they are expecting.
After his recent victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 296, “The Baddy” received another win in his UFC record, ultimately giving him his five-fight winning streak. With such a record, one would expect the British fighter to add to the line of fellows making the demand to join the UFC 300. The 28-year-old, nonetheless, shared that joining the event is impossible for him.
Despite admitting that he had an earlier interest in the event and a fight against someone higher in the ranking, Pimblett has to decline in case the offer is made, as UFC 300’s date coincides with his wife’s due date.
“I wanted to fight on UFC 300, but then when Dana announced it the other day, he said April 13, didn’t he?” Pimblett confirmed during a post-fight interview of the event. “The twins are due between the 12th and the 17th. If he’d have said a week earlier, I might have been able to,” Pimblett said. “I just wanna fight someone above me, someone ranked now if I can. But with the twins coming, I’m gonna spend some time with my pregnant wife and then obviously with my babies when they’re first born.”
Despite this, the fighter is certain that he will be back next year, specifically in mid-2024 in Manchester, where the promotion is rumored to make a return.
“I’ve heard of a rumored card in July in Manchester, which is only 30 minutes from my house,” Pimblett said. “So, you could see me fight on that.”
Currently, there are still no confirmed names that will soon face the young fighter, but it can be recalled that Pimblett made a callout to Bobby Green. “King,” however, told him to beat Ferguson first, which he did. Green, on the other hand, made a terrible KO loss to Jalin Turner at UFC on ESPN 52. With this, it is unknown if the Briton still has his eye on Green.
