Conor McGregor Deletes a Pointed Tweet As Concern For Max Holloway’s Health and Career Begins to Grow…

Do not expect to see Max Holloway in the octagon anytime soon. The UFC featherweight champion is currently in hospital with concussion-like symptoms, that he had displayed in a number of interviews before his team sought medical attention. Former middleweight champion Michael Bisping spotted that something was not right and commented on it.

It’s a big blow to the UFC who were hoping that UFC 226 would be one of the highest selling PPVs of the year. Of course, it’s still an excellent card with Francis Ngannou v Derrick Lewis moved up to the co-main event slot under Stipe Miocic’s heavyweight title defense against Daniel Cormier. Brian Ortega, Holloway’s scheduled opponent with not fight.

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor, who has already tweeted his respects and best wishes to Max Holloway has gone even further with an incendiary tweet that he has since deleted. However, we’ve managed to get a screenshot for you. You’re welcome.

Not Impressed

McGregor is not impressed with the public or UFC reaction to Holloway’s situation. There is no word yet on whether or not Holloway’s trauma is career threatening, but it’s definitely ruled him out for the near future. ‘The Notorious’ was inundated with tweets and comments on his social media asking him to save the event. He responded:

“Everybody asks who can be got to replace. But nobody asks what is wrong with our champion?”

It’s a pointed dig at everybody who doesn’t understand the dangers of the MMA world and combat sports in general. McGregor has seen a man die in the cage at an event in Ireland due to brain trauma. He doesn’t need reminding what it can do to you. Meanwhile, it’s idiotic to ask him to jump in and fight Ortega at featherweight on three days notice. Even at his most prepared, 145 was a brutal weight-cut for the natural lightweight.

Update

UFC President Dana White gave an update on Max Holloway’s situation. It’s concerning because nobody seems to know what is wrong yet. A concussion can occur very easily – just ask Liverpool FC goalkeeper Loris Karius who committed two blunders in front of 360 million television blunders, after taking an elbow to the head.

“It’s a weird situation,” White told MMAjunkie. “I was just talking to Jeff Novitzky in the back, and there’s a couple of different – some people think it’s concussion-related, some people think it’s weight-cutting related.

They haven’t really got down to the bottom of what it is, but according to him, he feels fine. But obviously, he’s not fine. So we’re going to continue to try to figure out what’s wrong with Max Holloway. In the meantime, there’s no way this guy’s going to fight anytime soon.”

Interim?

We can confirm that Holloway hadn’t even begun his weight-cut properly at this time, so it’s unlikely to be anyway attributed to that. Meanwhile, the UFC pressed the panic button and tried to slot in an interim featherweight title between Jeremy Stephens and Frankie Edgar at the last moment.

Unfortunately for White’s plans, it was just too short notice for Frankie Edgar to make the weight cut, although ‘Lil’ Heathen’ is ready to fight. It will be very interesting to see what happens there. How could Ortega be the number one contender yet not considered for the interim title? Totally bizarre.
