MMA Fans Around The World Had a Heart in Mouth Moment Yesterday When Daniel Cormier Fell at the UFC 226 PreFight Press Conference…
Dana White was ready to hang it all up and become a Tibetan monk. He’s already bald so he wouldn’t even need a haircut, and all this UFC stress can’t be good for his blood pressure. After the drama and mystery surrounding Max Holloway’s withdrawal from the UFC 226 card, the last thing he needed was Daniel Cormier to fall like a sack of potatoes.
There is no such thing as a UFC event without ridiculously unnecessary drama. Whether it’s Conor McGregor going mental and throwing a dolly through a bus window, Yoel Romero missing weight in successive title fights, Holloway suffering concussion, or Tony Ferguson tripping over a cable, the UFC is no stranger to this sort of craziness.
The Ferguson scenario was the one that was definitely going through everyone’s minds after ‘DC’ tripped over a poorly placed speaker. ‘El Cucuy’ tore his LCL and started off a week of chaos during a press event in the run-up to UFC 223. As Cormier limped off stage, it looked like history had repeated itself.
Painful
As DC went to stand up, he tripped over a speaker and crashed to the floor out of sight. Someone in Las Vegas is getting sacked for that – rightfully so because we almost lost the main event. Cormier definitely wasn’t happy about it. That sort of thing isn’t good for anybody’s heart. He told MMA reporter Brett Okamoto that he should be fit to fight.
If there is any underlying injury and he is forced to withdraw, expect Stipe Miocic to fight Derrick Lewis. ‘The Black Beast’ takes on the fearsome Francis Ngannou in a heavyweight Clash of the Titans and surely can’t go past the first round. After Holloway vs Ortega was scrapped, their fight was bumped up to the co-main event slot, so a ready-made replacement for DC is there.

Unlucky
The loss of Max Holloway is expected to play havoc with the UFC’s expected pay-per-view sales this weekend. He’s proven to be a big draw, and with Francis Ngannou and the Stipe vs DC super fight on the card, it would have probably been the biggest card of the year so far.
However, after ‘Blessed’ was cursed with concussion-like symptoms, forcing his team to pull him from the contest for his personal safety, you can bet that potential sales will be much lower. Incidentally, Holloway is currently in hospital and we wish all the best in his recovery.

Interim Title
The UFC acted quickly to try and replace Holloway and Ortega. ‘T-City”s team has made it clear that they will not consider any fight that isn’t for a belt against the champion. Dana White informed the media at the prefight conference that they had tried to organize Frankie Edgar vs Jeremy Stephens for the interim title, but Edgar’s family wouldn’t let him do it.
It’s probably just as well because that could all get very messy. Ortega hasn’t done anything wrong to cost him the title shot and after knocking Edgar out, it would have got very complicated if ‘The Answer’ had won the interim title.
Let’s all just breathe a sigh of relief that Cormier isn’t crippled…
