DONE DEAL? Donald Cerrone Has Revealed to Fans When He Will Fight Conor McGregor… if he is to be Believed…
Donald Cerrone has been pushing this one hard and it looks like it’s worked in his favour. The popular Colorado native is desperate to fight Conor McGregor and who can blame him? It’s a fast track to fortune and possibly even a title shot if he can shock the (casual) MMA world and beat the Irishman.
Although the UFC has been adamant that no deal has been done between the three respective parties, Cerrone has been leaking information surrounding negotiations via his Instagram. It’s a smart move because fans have really jumped on board and are excited for this potential fight to go ahead.
He’s now revealed when the fight is going to go ahead. Now it has to be said that there has been zero confirmation of this from the UFC. But you know what they say: where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
Showdown
According to Cowboy, the fight is set to go down on July 6th, in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Although at this stage there has been no event booked for that date, it has been confirmed that the UFC is planning to put UFC 239 on that date, so it would make sense that McGregor and Cerrone would fight on that card. Cerrone wrote on Instagram:
“@budweiser v @properwhiskey July 6th”
Let’s hope that he’s getting a good sponsorship package from the beer company because it’s not exactly the nicest beer he could be drinking, is it?
Rivalry
It will be fascinating to see how the two men interact with each other if this fight is made official. So far there has been nothing but respect between the two men, with Cerrone going on the charm offensive to try and secure the red cowboy hat night.
He has the charisma, image and popularity to make this fight appealing to McGregor who needs to be very careful about who he takes on next. There’s a reason he shut down Tony Ferguson’s attempts at a match-up over the last couple of days. Cerrone is perceived as beatable and marketable. Those are the two biggest factors in McGregor’s likely decision to fight him.
Who Will Win?
This will not be a walk in the park for either man. It’s easy to forget, but McGregor is one of the slickest strikers in the lighter weight classes. He’s likely to hunt for the finish quickly, with his violent left hand. Cerrone is notorious for starting slowly, so this could be McGregor’s best shot at winning. Also with his Muay Thai stance, he is susceptible to being hit.
However, if he doesn’t get it done like that, Cerrone could snatch a victory. When he settles he’s able to put together devastating combinations using both kicks and punches. He’s also very dangerous on the ground, which is without a doubt the Irishman’s weak link. He’s also got a height advantage over McGregor. We saw ‘The Notorious’ struggle to cope with Nate Diaz’s ability to eat his shots. Will Cerrone be able to do the same?
