One of the most famous rising stars in the boxing world is Ryan Garcia and he is set to face Olympic gold medalist, Luke Campbell. It will be Garcia’s toughest test to date as those he has beaten don’t have the same resume that Campbell has.
Luke Campbell is a legit boxer that is world-class, although the last fight against Vasyl Lomachenko he was outclassed there is no shame in losing to the then #1 Pound for Pound Boxer in the World.
Ryan Garcia is set to fight for his first Major boxing belt, which they are fighting for the WBC interim lightweight belt. There are currently two WBC Champion in the division which is Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez. Lopez won the franchise belt against Vasyl Lomachenko and Devin Haney is the current WBC Champion.
The winner of the fight would likely face Devin Haney for the WBC belt since the interim usually becomes the mandatory challenger. There is also the case where Teofimo Lopez would want to unify all the current major belts, but he could argue that he is already the undisputed champion.
Meanwhile, of all the rising stars Ryan Garcia has likely the biggest following or fan base of them all. He currently has 7.7m followers on IG which is among the highest in the boxing world. He also puts on an entertaining show but viewers must not blink since it may end in just a second of the fight.
The question is will he be able to showcase the same type of performance against a high caliber boxer like Luke Campbell. If he beats Campbell, he can prove to the world that he is a legit top contender in the division. He has fought Devin Haney in the amateurs but Haney got the best in the encounter.
With Canelo Alvarez leaving the Golden Boy Promotions, Garcia will likely become their cash cow given his popularity in the casual viewers.
The fight was rebooked due to Campbell testing positive for COVID but the good thing is they rebooked it as early as January.
