Michael “Venom” Page vs. Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos- Bellator 158
The ex-husband of Cris Cyborg, Evangelista Santos, is someone who garners sympathy from some fans. After all, this guy spent years married to a woman that Dana White once referred to as “Wanderlei Silva in a dress”.
The couple split in 2011, while Santos was on a 2-fight losing streak in Strikeforce. He’d eventually request his release from the company when they weren’t able to provide him with enough fights. After fighting sparingly since 2011, Santos would fight 4 times in 2016.
He defeated Artenas Young at Legacy 50, then won his Bellator debut in 30seconds via heel hook against Brennan Ward. He then got knocked out by Saad Awaad in May, before being scheduled to fight the up-and-coming Michael “Venom” Page in July.
What followed was one of the most brutal knockouts of all time. Page landed a vicious knee that cracked the skull of Santos, most likely ending his career. Doctors have said that the injury to Santos’ head could have been fatal. To make things worse, Page than broke out a Pokemon hat and danced around as if he was a Pokemon trainer.
Santos has said he will fight again, but it’s unclear if doctors will ever let him do that.
