Nate Diaz

There might be a pool of grizzled veterans who are more than willing to shut McGregor’s mouth and take one of his gold straps, but Diaz wants one more piece of the outspoken UFC champion.

Diaz, who stepped in as a replacement for the injured Rafael dos Anjos on 11 days’ notice, shocked the world by submitting McGregor in a welterweight bout at UFC 196.

It was a different story in their 170-pound rematch as McGregor avenged his loss by carving a majority decision victory over Diaz at UFC 202.

Since the disappointing defeat, the 31-year-old Stockton native has demanded a rubber match against McGregor.

McGregor has suggested fighting his arch-nemesis at lightweight, which could favor Diaz who is a natural lightweight.

Diaz has competed at 155-pounds for the majority of his career and is currently ranked No. 5 in the UFC lightweight standings.

Conor-McGregor-vs-Nate-Diaz

While the Irishman made necessary adjustments for their rematch enough to earn him a win, there is no denying that Diaz has already proven he can not only beat McGregor, but that he can finish him.

Diaz relies heavily on boxing from range, using a piercing right jab and a thudding straight left as the core of his attack. He is comfortable maintaining distance with his left hand and pulls his head back to evade right hooks.

Diaz’s mat skills are also as good as his stand-up game, pestering opponents with persuasive triangle-armbar-omoplata-sweep chains and an assortment of submission setups.

Diaz is also an imposing fighter in close-quartered exchanges as he can incorporate underhand tosses and trips while unleashing thunderous knees to the body.
