Felice Herrig Has Released A Massive Statement Burning the UFC After Mackenzie Dern Enters the Official Flyweight Rankings…
One of the most popular strawweight fighters in the world, Felice Herrig has blasted the UFC rankings system after she found out that Mackenzie Dern had entered the top-15 of the division. Dern has only fought twice in the UFC, beating unranked opponents. Last time out she missed weight by a ridiculous 7lbs.
Herrig is justifiably furious with this because Dern has really done nothing to warrant being bumped up. Yes, her last fight against Amanda Bobby Cooper turned into a dominant victory, but as Dominick Cruz said, she missed weight by so much that she had effectively cheated.
Herrig is just coming off a decision defeat to Karolina Kowalkiewicz and has taken aim at how the rankings below No. 5 are jumbled up and that some simply have not been awarded on merit. In a lengthy Instagram post of over 200 characters, she made her feelings very clear.

Skewed Rankings
Herrig says what we are basically all thinking. She openly questions how Dern could enter the rankings despite not fighting ranked fighters or making weight. She wrote:
“McenzieDern misses weight by 7.5 pounds, which makes her closer to a #Flyweight than strawweight. She beats an unranked fighter and takes @angieoverkill well earned #15 spot when her only actual win in the UFC as a #straweight was to #Ashleyyoder. McEnzie won by a very close split decision, while Angela won unanimously. So why does Angela get bumped??”
That’s a very controversial call. Angela Hill – the UFC’s first African-American female fighter, and a 4-fight veteran who actually won her last fight gets bumped off the rankings? Oh dear.

Not Right
The ranking system will clearly have to be reassessed because this just isn’t right. It’s ridiculously blatant how the UFC is trying to push Dern, despite her not showing the professionalism you expect of an elite fighter. Herrig said:
“Even if Dern made weigh there is no factual reasoning as to why or how she could take Angela’s spot other than a massive glitch in the matrix.”
It’s definitely a very strange decision.
Hype Train
The strawweight contender also condemned the hype train. Of course, some fighters use this to climb the rankings – think Kevin Lee, Colby Covington, and Conor McGregor. But all of these fighters had to beat ranked opponents to get ranked. Herrig summed it up:
“These days hype trains seem to be gifted rankings over actually having to fight to the top.”
It’s very clear that Mackenzie Dern has rattled a few cages since she joined the UFC. What do you think? Is Felice Herrig just jealous and overreacting? Or does she make a brave and decent point?
