3. Bisping’s Challenger-Ducking

The last time the UFC middleweight champion faced a top-3 contender it was December 12th 2015. That was UFC 194, when #1 ranked Luke Rockhold defeated Chris Weidman for the belt.

Since that time a #5 ranked Bisping stepped in on short notice for an injured Chris Weidman in the scheduled Weidman vs Rockhold rematch. In the 1st round that night, Bisping threw the entire division for a loop.

Then Bisping defended the belt against #14 ranked Dan Henderson, and now he’s facing a previously unranked fighter at middleweight. Thanks to the planned Bisping vs. GSP bout, we might go over 2 years without a top-ranked fighter getting a title shot in the division. How’s that fair?

Romero, Rockhold, Whittaker, Mousasi, Weidman, Souza, and even Anderson Silva are just going to have to wait until October for the division to start moving again.
