Conor McGregor’s Coaches Want Him to Take on UFC Legend Georges St. Pierre…
Conor McGregor is expected to return later this year. That’s according to UFC President Dana White, who broke the news that the Irishman is due to step into the octagon in August or October. The lightweight champion is currently training hard, as he bids to get sharp after a full year without an MMA fight.
Of course, he won’t be the lightweight champion for much longer. He’s set to be stripped as soon as there is a result in the title fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagamedov on April 7th in New York’s Barclays Center. It’s the 4th time this fight has been booked so fingers crossed it actually happens.
McGregor is expected to be catapulted into an instant title fight with the winner so that he gets the chance to reclaim his belt. However, this isn’t the only option for “The Notorious”. He’s been linked to an MMA fight with Floyd Mayweather, but team McGregor has another target in their sites.

Insane Option
Owen Roddy is Conor McGregor’s striking coach. He’s one of the most important members of the Irishman’s camp and took the lead role in preparing him for his crossover to boxing against Floyd Mayweather. Roddy told Chael Sonnen that he wants McGregor to fight UFC legend Georges St. Pierre.
The Canadian is arguably the greatest ever UFC fighter. He’s a former welterweight champion, with the most defenses ever in that division. “Rush” put Canadian MMA on the map. Last year he returned after a four-year hiatus and took the middleweight title from Michael Bisping by way of knockout.

Wants It
Roddy was incredibly enthusiastic about the prospect of this fight happening. As a former professional MMA athlete himself, he recognizes that this would truly seal McGregor’s personal legacy as one of the all-time greats himself. He told Sonnen:
“I’d be confident in saying that Conor is the biggest pay-per-view draw between him and GSP, but it would be an insane fight, it would be a crazy fight, it would be huge. It would be probably the biggest fight that the UFC has thrown, and yeah, it would be great.”
Obviously, money talks and that is one of the main reasons why this fight could go ahead. After walking away with a cool $100 million from the Mayweather fight, the McGregor Team will want to make sure that their next contest is worth their while. This is the one competitive fight that could actually draw big numbers on both sides.

McGregor Wins
Big Surprise: Roddy firmly believes that his fighter has the best chance of winning the potential fight. St. Pierre is primarily known for his wrestling, while McGregor is a lethal striker. The Irishman’s coach has full faith in his pupil’s abilities.
“I’m sure if the money was right for Conor and obviously Georges that would be amazing as well,” said Roddy. “For the 155 belt, it would be an insane story.”
There is one major barrier to cross. St. Pierre is still recovering from ulcerative colitis. To fight McGregor he’ll have to cut a lot of weight. It is definitely one fight that would capture the imaginations of fans. Two legends facing off from the past and the present. Who do you think would win?
