We are in a weird era in MMA, where fighters have learned that to make the most money possible, they don’t need to be the best fighter, they need to be the best character. Main event fighters receive a PPV bonus that is based on how well the PPV does. As a result the current UFC is a roster filled with weird characters, many of whom resemble popular comic book characters.
The link between comic books and MMA isn’t new. In fact in the buildup to their UFC 148 fight, the UFC actually produced a series of short comic books involving Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
Inside the cage fighting styles have advanced considerably as well, making the bouts themselves look more comic book-esque than they ever have have before. For these reasons we have put together this list of popular comic book characters and which current UFC stars best represent them.
Here are 10 UFC stars and their comic book counterparts…
Miesha Tate – Wonderwoman
Only one woman in the UFC could earn the title of “Wonderwoman” and she is Miesha Tate. Is Miesha Tate the most powerful woman in the UFC? No, she’s not. Is she the best fighter in the UFC? No, she’s not that either. But Wonderwoman was never the strongest, and she was often overpowered by her enemies but would find a way to win anyway.
In fact Wonderwoman doesn’t really have any super-powers other than being gifted at combat. This is much like Miesha Tate, who generally wins her fights through strategy and patience. Wonder woman does use a lasso of truth which forces her enemies to tell the truth, though she has yet to use this on Rousey.
