UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has taken to social media to unleash his fury this week. ‘El Cucuy’ took aim at Conor McGregor and undefeated lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov in his latest rant…

It’s been a while since we’ve seen UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor compete in the octagon. In fact, it’s been well over a year since he even competed in MMA. For the contenders in the 155-pound division, this has proved a frustrating period.

During McGregor’s more than year-long absence, Tony Ferguson has cemented himself at the top of the division. Even though he holds the interim title at lightweight, there was still talk of a Nate Diaz trilogy fight for ‘The Notorious’ next.

Such is the sequence in the never-ending lottery to fight Conor McGregor, but things continued to get deeper. After a rumored UFC 219 return fell apart, Conor McGregor’s coach dropped the dime on the Irishman’s comeback.

And it wasn’t great.

Tony Ferguson, albeit next in line with the junior title, is left waiting…again

“McGregor Out Six Months” & Ferguson is Furious…

When McGregor’s coach revealed his fighter would be out six months during contract negotiations, questions were again raised about his lack of title defenses. Talented and the champion as he is, McGregor is once again holding up a talent-stacked division.

While Ferguson has been wrecking the division, McGregor has been fighting Floyd Mayweather and making serious cheddar. Since degfeating Kevin Lee at UFC 216, ‘El Cucuy’ has been lashing out at McGregor.

This week, he mocked McGregor for calling himself ‘king of the jungle’ with this savage Tweet:

It didn’t stop there, as Ferguson had some prime cuts for his foe Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ferguson and ‘The Eagle’ have been scheduled to fight many times, most recently at UFC 209, but the bouts always crumbled at the last minute.

Before their latest dance date, Khabib pulled out due to a botched weight cut. When the Russian wrestler took to Twitter to blast Ferguson, the interim champ reminded him of this:

Twitter beefing aside, McGregor’s coach doesn’t think Ferguson stands a chance in the striking department. That’s great and all, if the Irishman ever actually fights again:

“I’d be very, very surprised if Tony would engage in that,” Kavanagh told Starsport. “We saw in his last fight that he would throw himself on the ground for Iminari rolling leg locks, he’ll do anything necessary to get it to the ground.

“Even Conor’s most ardent hater would have to say if you’re looking in his last two or three fights, he does get hit a lot. His stand up is not Nate Diaz’s.”

“He does have a great chin, I’ll give him that,” he continued. “He can take a hiding.”

“He would not have the technique or come close to the technique that Conor would have on the feet,” the Straight Blast Gym Ireland head coach said.

“So I can see him trying out the range early in the fight, but after a very, very short time realising he’s out of his depth and then he’ll try those Iminari leg locks. He will try anything to get it to the ground.”
