Travis Fulton vs. Jeremy Bullock

With over 300 MMA fights under his belt over a 23-year period, Travis Fulton has seen and done it all in the sport, but one fight in particular has stuck long in the memory, both for how much of a mismatch it was, and for how brutal the finish proved to be.

This was back in 1998 at Extreme Challenge 22, where a late switch in opponent saw the 200lb Fulton, who had already amassed a 49-12-5 record by this stage, going up against Jeremy Bullock, a local 170lb taekwondo practitioner making his MMA debut.

On paper the match-up looked so one-sided that even Fulton’s own manager Monty Cox advised him to go easy on the novice.

Early in the first round Fulton got his opponent down and Bullock showed his complete lack of ground skills by desperately clinging onto a schoolyard headlock and not letting go.

Fulton retaliated by picking him up one-handed high into the air and then ragdolling him back down to the mat, practically folding him in two as he awkwardly landed on his head and neck.

The impact didn’t knock Bullock unconscious, with the distraught fighter instead left writhing on the mat and yelling in pain.

Bullock was eventually stretchered out of the cage with a neck brace on and later diagnosed with having fractured a vertibrae. He never fought again.
