Gray Maynard vs. Rob Emerson
Knocking out someone with a slam is a spectacle by itself, but Gray Maynard raised the bar against Rob Emerson at the TUF 5 Finale in 2007 when he took himself out at the same time.
Mid-way through the second round of the fight Maynard landed an uppercut and then swooped in for a double-leg takedown, raising Emerson aloft for a moment, before sending him crashing back down to earth.
The slam clearly did the job as Emerson was visibly distressed, badly dazed and unable to defend himself afterwards.
However, Maynard had also managed to spike his own head into the mat on impact and knocked himself unconscious in the process, resulting in him lying slumped motionless over Emerson for a few moments before rolling off onto his back.
Maynard woozily tried and compleetely failed to get back to his feet, but reacted furiously when a few minutes later the fight was declared a no-contest, insisting that he’d still been conscious – a fact Joe Rogan disputed with him using replay footage during the awkward post-fight interview that followed.
