3. Shonie Carter vs Matt Serra (7 seconds left)

Current co-host of the official UFC podcast, Matt Serra, made his UFC debut at UFC 31. He would spend years afterwards trying to live down what happened.

This was just the second UFC event under Zuffa, and featured the UFC debut of B.J Penn, Randy Couture defeating Pedro Rizzo, and Chuck Liddell KOing Kevin Randleman. It also featured a highlight reel knockout that would be shown the world over.

With just 7 seconds to go, Carter knocked out Serra with a spinning back fist for the victory. Serra would have to wait 5 and a half years to get his revenge on Shonie, when they met in the semi-finals of the Ultimate Fighter: the Comeback tournament, and Serra won to advance to the finals. After winning the tournament, Serra would shock the world when he upset Georges St. Pierre to win the UFC welterweight championship.
