The UFC 298 weigh-in event was a success, with every fighter making weight during the ceremony. That includes Junior Tafa, who replaced his brother on one day’s notice and successfully made the contract weight requirement of the bout.
The event was attended by all fighters in the event, including featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski, who will be challenged by Spanish fighter Ilia Topuria. Both reached the required weight for the class weight, with the two weighing 144.5 pounds.
Paulo Costa and Robert Whittaker, who will be the co-main event of the card, also made the weight after both registering 185.5 pounds. The rest of the fighters in the card also made success in the weigh-in, including Junior Tafa, who agreed in a contract bout. The fighter replaced his brother Justin Tafa after the UFC confirmed he’s no longer in the preliminary card fight against Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Justin Tafa reportedly suffered from an undisclosed injury, pushing brother to take the fight.
Interestingly, “The Juggernaut” is booked against Karl Williams on March 23 in Las Vegas. With the fighter now taking a match earlier than expected, it is unknown what will happen to the Williams fight. We will provide an update on the matter in the next stories.
